NOTE: All of our premium Arabica coffees are roasted to City+ to Full City roasts, showing minimal-to-no surface oils….we want all of the flavor to stay in the beans until the coffee is ground! Despite the additional descriptors, the first flavor and aroma you'll think of is "COFFEE".

While awaiting the arrivals of Central American coffees…outlook is somewhat spotty for cup quality yet again…we decided it was time to bring in a stellar Kenya AB, first one in many years! The AA's have been strong for us but this offering from the Gatugi Factory (wet mill) has very unusual, interesting top notes of fresh squeezed orange juice, lemon zest and honey. Nyeri County, located on the eastern slopes of the Aberdares Mountain range northeast of capital city Nairobi, continues to be a powerhouse for varietals SL28, SL34 and even the lesser-regarded Ruiru 11. Smallholder farms, generally in the range of 250-300 shrubs under a canopy of macadamia, gravelia and banana trees, are situated between 1400-1800 meters. The farmers are members of the Othaya Farming Cooperative Society, which has its own dry mill operation in Gatuya-ini. This AB is fully washed and dried on raised beds. Shipped in GrainPro from origin, and very fresh!
We are doing a light-to-medium roast which not only pops as a pourover coffee but as a single origin espresso as well…complex, and not overwhelmingly bright, with some additional chocolate notes in the finish.
