NOTE: All of our premium Arabica coffees are roasted to City+ to Full City roasts, showing minimal-to-no surface oils….we want all of the flavor to stay in the beans until the coffee is ground! Despite the additional descriptors, the first flavor and aroma you'll think of is "COFFEE".

No surprise that the majestically beautiful vastness of Tanzania includes a thriving coffee sector. Like most of East Africa, the soils surrounding its primary stratovolcano (Mt. Kiliminjaro) are superb for growing anything, especially coffee, which was first planted at the very end of the 19th century.
The Mbeya region of South Tanzania is particularly known for coffees of great citrusy taste and acidity. This “community lot” offering is from the combined efforts of the Usongwe and Shiviwaka co-operatives, together comprising about 740 members. At an elevation of 1700 meters, the average size of these farmers' farms is between 0.5 and 1.5 hectares (Basically, between 1 and 4 acres.) These producers are mostly subsistence farmers who rely on coffee production as their main income, though they also grow bananas, beans and maize and keep chickens, goats and cows.
Our Mbeya shows notes of apricot, lemon-lime, caramel and black tea. “Robustly delicate” in a pourover one must say!

New arrivals streaming in... As the PLAGUE wears us all down at times, roasting is a salve for my spirit, and new crop arrivals are fun to share. Ethiopia, our favorite of all origins, is still behind the production and shipping curves by a couple months in general. We just got one of our faves of recent years, a washed ...more

"I went to a fabulous concert at Mary's Woods yesterday. Imagine my surprise that the person I get my best coffee from was delivering such beautiful music. Then the memory that the first time I tasted your coffee was a batch you'd contributed to the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra, and were supporting the community in so many ways. What a wonderful life you have created for yourself."
