More Ethiopia goodness

by badbeard2 23. August 2019 20:08

We've been big fans of ALL of the Ethiopian coffee regions since day one, and Yirgacheffe is many-splendored, especially in Natural (whole dried coffee cherry using raised beds) process. Just in and must-try is Yirgacheffe Koke washing station, from a very high and sinuously-sloped area which produces exceptional coffee from a mere 96-farmer group near the facility. Jammy, tropical fruit and chocolate notes abound for drip and pourover methods. Makes a nice pairing with our Kochere washed as well...best of both worlds.

New arrivals have poured in!

by badbeard2 27. July 2019 21:56

So much great coffee in-house! March-July is generally a lull in coffee availability as producers get their stuff into containers and onward to the US and Europe. Tomorrow all of Colombia will be exulting over its first Tour de France winner, 22 year-old Egan Bernal, and today we at Badbeard's salute him and also three fabuloso new coffees from that country..El Obraje washed Caturra and two direct trade microlot gems; Yellow Honey process Caturra (Finca San Jose)and the exotic and very rare Wush Wush natural process from Finca La Suiza.

Our partner Ally Coffee also sent us their farmgate Natural process Yellow Catuai from Fazenda Primavera and an extraordinary El Salvador Natural Red Bourbon from Finca Loma La Gloria owned by yet another outstanding woman producer, Anny Ruth Pimentel. We are also pairing the Brazil Primavera with the Anny's special three-coffee wedding blend (prepared for her OWN recent wedding by her farm manager) for a new iteration of La Boda Espresso.

Feast! Tell your friends!

La Boda Espresso debut...Brazil + microlot El Salvador medley oh my

by badbeard2 27. June 2019 18:13

We are calling this a seasonal espresso but it is going to be a keeper for sure. The pairing of our pulped natural Brazil Mantiquiera de Minas and an awesome trio of coffees from producer Anny Ruth Pimentel and her Beneficio Loma La Gloria in El Balsamo Quetzaltepec is a stunner. Has to be called La Boda..."the wedding"...since it was a special preparation by Anny's farm manager for her own wedding just a couple years ago. Such was the reception that it became an official offering, and emblematic of the fine and unusual work underway at Loma La Gloria. The coffees are Bourbon Red Honey, Pacamara Natural process and Pacamara Yellow Honey process, grown around 1500 meters. Very intense fruit and cocoa notes, light-medium roasted, and paired with the chocolately-nutty Mantiqueira a neat treat. Getting married and want to present your guests with a nice gift? Could be the one....
