La Boda Espresso debut...Brazil + microlot El Salvador medley oh my

by badbeard2 27. June 2019 18:13

We are calling this a seasonal espresso but it is going to be a keeper for sure. The pairing of our pulped natural Brazil Mantiquiera de Minas and an awesome trio of coffees from producer Anny Ruth Pimentel and her Beneficio Loma La Gloria in El Balsamo Quetzaltepec is a stunner. Has to be called La Boda..."the wedding"...since it was a special preparation by Anny's farm manager for her own wedding just a couple years ago. Such was the reception that it became an official offering, and emblematic of the fine and unusual work underway at Loma La Gloria. The coffees are Bourbon Red Honey, Pacamara Natural process and Pacamara Yellow Honey process, grown around 1500 meters. Very intense fruit and cocoa notes, light-medium roasted, and paired with the chocolately-nutty Mantiqueira a neat treat. Getting married and want to present your guests with a nice gift? Could be the one....

Delightful Brazil pulped natural Mantiqueira de Minas just made it into the single origin espresso lineup. It will also be the base for Mondocello Espresso....this is a 100% Mundo Novo varietal with strong traditional resonances of chocolate/cocoa, nuts and nice fruit to boot!

Boutique lineup getting longer and fabber

by badbeard2 31. May 2019 13:10

The Special du Jour Boutique selection is fattening up and if you like surprises (I get to choose!), this will be your happy selection. Currently comprises gems from Mexico (Alfred Klein Jade Centennial and Bella Vista Women-Produced, both from Eastern Chiapas near the Guatemala border), Tanzania (Vohora family Carbonic Maceration), Peru (El Arenal Yojan Perez), Brazil (Jacarezinho 24-hour cold-soaked raised bed dried natural process), and later next week Organic Uganda Sipi Falls washed.

All fantastic coffees. 'Tis the season of restless anticipation as E. African and Central American coffees head our way....

by badbeard2 1. April 2019 21:38

Have been champing at the bit waiting to get this fabulous coffee...Lintong Blue Batak, aged over 2 years (originally harvested and processed September-October 2016). Very rich and complex, very different from out more-traditional Organic Takengon Mandheling KKGO. I was super-stoked after trying the importer's sample and finally it is arriving tomorrow, April 2. A real treat!

New coffee offering...Special du Jour Boutique, for rarities!

by badbeard2 7. February 2019 16:35

We often take in tiny lots for assay here in the "lab", and like mad scientists put them through the paces for unusual notes they might yield. Calling it "Boutique" not for pretense but because we might have as few as a few pounds of it or as many as 50...and they will run out quickly. As a test case this month's offering is an exceptional and rare natural process coffee from Burundi. List has expanded in March 2019 to include gems from Brazil (special process Natural), and washed Peru. Guaranteed to entice the senses!
