Lovely Tanzania AB new crop and Guatemala San Vicente Pacaya 2018

by badbeard2 24. September 2018 12:26

We loved last year's Tanzania AB and just brought it back for a short trial. A tasty breakfast coffee, nice stone fruity and chocolatey notes. Guatemala continues to return strongly to the forefront in Central American offerings...can't get enough! Adding this San Vicente (a distinct growing region near Acatenango) Pacaya microlot on Thursday Sept. 27 to the list on the strength of a big cupping...this black cherry and walnutty-toned washed coffee paired so well with my go-to breakfast choice of hearty farmhouse bread with almond butter and Bonne Maman cherry preserves...yummm.

Special microlot Costa Rica Anaerobically-produced excellence

by badbeard2 6. September 2018 20:52

Very psyched to have come across this unique coffee and found it to be MORE than everything it was cranked up to be. Producer Luis Campos has taken the super-solid caturra varietal to new heights by anaerobically producing it once it reaches a specific (26 Brix) ripeness on the shrub. Just fantastic stuff.

Also by week's end (roasting commences on Monday Sept. 10) will have the 2018 crop from our esteemed Honduran producer Ernesto Vasquez, whose coffees we have proudly offered every year of importer Royal Coffee's Catracha Project.

The Hadeso Natural Grade 1 from Guji just in to take the place of the delicious but all-too-scarce Hambela natural, which was a short-lived hit. We should be presenting the washed Hambela version in October...can't wait! Will post close to its arrival date.

Meeting expectations and how!

by Bean 24. July 2018 06:09

The just-arrived  Ethiopia Hamdela natural process and Peru Chasqui new crop are in and really excellent...Hambela a big, sweet fruit bomb, and the Peru even chocolatier and more fruit forward than last year's offering. If you like chocolately power bars, please specify (in the comments section of the order page) "darker roast" when ordering. Will be a very rich single origin espresso!

New and interesting Uganda, Guatemala community lot Candelaria 2018, SWP Decaf Ethiopia

by badbeard2 2. June 2018 23:57

New coffees are starting to make their way to the roaster and 2018 crop looks promising in all sectors except Sumatra from this angle. Liking a lot the new community lot Guatemala "Candelaria" from the Huehuetenango region, which comprises 3 distinct farms. Uganda Mt. Elgon has impressed as "the" up-and-comer in East Africa, another community coffee from 5 smallholder sub-sectors in Kapchorwa.

Swiss Water Process Ethiopia Limu is a nice addition for those avoiding the jitters.

More goodies coming soon!

Kenya Kenya Kenya Nicaragua natural

by badbeard2 14. April 2018 20:59

Two gone (Grand Reserve and Blue Mountain) and one new one in, Konyu AA. I'm a fan of the Konyu and only got a miniscule amount of it, too little to list as an inventory item since it usually flies out. However, you dedicated fans, while I have it please order Special du Jour Deluxe and specify you want it in the order notes. Meanwhile, as new beauties roll into the 'States, stay tuned, we'll get you something!

Awaiting early next week a fantastic and exotic Nicaragua Red Pacamara natural process from Finca Limoncillo as well as one of the only Sumatras I will carry for a while, Kerincze wet-hulled. The bleakness of the Sumatra crop this year has definitely taken its toll...farmers facing greater-than-imagined shortfalls owing to superabundant rainfall and production value issues.
