NOTE: All of our premium Arabica coffees are roasted to City+ to Full City roasts, showing minimal-to-no surface oils….we want all of the flavor to stay in the beans until the coffee is ground! Despite the additional descriptors, the first flavor and aroma you'll think of is "COFFEE".

Tanzania Iyenga Peaberry

Country of Origin: Tanzania

Peaberry...resulting when the coffee cherry produces a single seed rather than the usual pair, has a longtime public association with Tanzania. This country seemingly offers more of it than anywhere in Africa. In the sorting/screening process, the peaberries, smaller and rounder than
the rest, fall to the bottom in what can only be described as caffeine Pachinko. They require a different roasting scheme than "regular"-sized beans as they are generally denser and have less surface area and react to the roast chamber much differently.
The Iyenga, Mwalyego and Itumpi Coops, three award-winning cooperatives from Tanzania's Mbeya and Mbinga regions, contributed coffee to this lot. The coffee was delivered to and curated by Taylor Winch Tanzania, our partner importer
Genuine Origin's sister company on the ground in Tanzania, which works closely with numerous coops offering technical and agronomic support.
The Iyenga Cooperative currently has 172 smallholder members and a combined production of 45 metric tons of green coffee.
When the collaboration with Taylor Winch started in 2014 Iyenga was selling through the public auction at mainstream prices. Today they have specialty buyers all around the world and they are building a name. Iyenga took 1st place in the
2018/19 Tanzania Coffee Board, Taste of Harvest Competition. Mwalyego Cooperative was registered in 1993 and currently has 164 farmers producing an average of 35/40mt. Since they started their partnership with Taylor Winch they have realized considerable improvements year over year. In 2018 Mwalyego took 6th position in the 2018/19 Tanzania Taste of the Harvest competition. This is a
heavy-bodied coffee, with prominent notes of Dark Chocolate, Brown Sugar, Tropical Fruit and Black Tea. Will upon request roast darker for single origin espresso and the standard roast is light-medium for drip and pourover.

"Badbeard’s Microroastery (badbeardscoffee.com), operated by Portland Cello Project co-founder Justin Kagan, is slightly better-known, having entered the game in 2006. But no other roaster has produced a Maker’s Mark-infused blend for Portland band Weinland, and that hipster cred counts for a lot."
