"Red Mountain" is a regional blend of coffees from 20 small to mid-sized farmers from the small town of Goroka, the capital of the Eastern Highlands Province, where it always feels like springtime. With ample rainfall most of the year, the mild climate helps cultivate quality coffee on the slopes of the region's high mountains at 1600 m.a.s.l. The Eastern Highlands are a lot more wild and rugged than the west. With over 94% of the population engaged in agricultural activity farming is the way of life. And the economic backbone of the region is founded on coffee production and export. This Red Mountain lot is unique in a few ways. Firstly, it's a natural coffee from an origin known for its preference for washed processing. Cherry was delivered to the
Lahamenegu Wet Mill, sorted for quality, then dry processed and turned over the course of six weeks. Lahamenegu also specializes in more esoteric processes such as honey and innovative fermentations.Secondly, its cup quality sets it apart from most PNG coffee. The blend features a heavy body that's signature to coffee from PNG, with grape, plum, and pomegranate flavors highlighted by medium acidity. Fantastic pourover.
