Kenya Oaklands Estate Peaberry

Oaklands Estate (which ironically entered the West coast at Oakland terminal)is another fine property run by SOCFINAF, a Thika/Ruiru-based company with extensive coffee holdings and other agricultural holdings in Kenya, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Liberia. Our other fine peaberry, Ruera, is another Estate in this portfolio, which includes coffees used to win World Barista championships (WBC, James Hoffman in 2007, with Socfinaf's Gethumbwini).

Our limited-offering Oaklands Estate Peaberry comes from the Thika district and a farm of just under 400 hectares (Ruera Estate is slightly bigger at 442 hectares). Like Ruera PB this is comprised of hybrid bourbon varietals and evinces a similar sweetness, somewhat more chocolatey and black currant. Will be trying as espresso in a couple more days but it has a lovely and lemon zesty finish as the cup cools.
