Our new crop Yirgacheffe Kebele Dumerso hails from arguably the epicenter of washed coffee in Ethiopia. There are two washing stations in the kebele; one co-op owned, and the other, whence our coffee, is owned and operated by Hirut Berhanu, a woman with many years in coffee trading before she purchased the mill from the Government in 2013 (it had been inactive for 15 years prior). Smallholder farmers (mostly women) from the area, whose farms average 1960 meters in elevation, bring their cherry for processing. There are close to 300 people employed at the Berhanu Dumerso mill and 95% are women.
This operation is roughly 25km north of the Chelelektu mill, where our natural process Yirgacheffe comes from. Both are wonderful! Highly recommend this washed Yirg for pourover, where it shines for its floral notes of jasmine, black tea and stone fruit. Very sweet cane sugary mid-palate and finish. ‘Tis the season for Ethiopia! We recently were voided of the popular Kochere washed and are happy this is in!

Papua New Guinea Par Avion Yes, planes are involved in the accessing of this delicious PNG coffee....the remote Simbai area is rather inaccessible so farmers must schlep their coffee to an airstrip. Worth every bean!
