Tiny, preternaturally lush Costa Rica just might be the flagship of Central American coffee production, if not beyond. Land stewardship, conservation, agronomic innovation and brilliant "engineering" make great bedfellows.
Our Jaguar Honey Process comes from Tarrazu's Beneficio San Diego mill, which was established in 1888 and is the largest of the three mills in C.R. operated by exporter Volcafe. The "Jaguar" name is not frivolous...Volcafe has partnered with Fundazoo and kicks in $1/quintal (about 100 pounds of green coffee) to the preservation of habitat for the country's noble feline.
Comprised of Catuai and Caturra varietals(I swear, no puns intended) from smallholder farms producing at between 1500-1900 meters, this meticulously prepared coffee is best to us as a pourover/drip. Cup notes are red apple, dried fig and apricot, chocolate as well as medium-bodied, sweet and delish.
