Good Burundies rival Kenyas in preparation, focus and flavor. This gem, a specified lot from the wide-reaching and tightly organized Murambi mill, is drawn from smallholder farms in the surrounding hills near the Mubarazi River. Like with most specialty coffee produced in landlocked Burundi, the Bourbon varietal predominates. Select red ripe cherry is disc-pulped and fermented for 24 hours, then washed and sorted again for another day before drying on raised African beds.
We chose this coffee as a highlighted single origin espresso, the medium roast offering a full-bodied, sweet and spicy and chocolately shot. In pourover a Kenya-like black currant/peach notes with glints of semisweet chocolate predominate.
