NOTE: All of our premium Arabica coffees are roasted to City+ to Full City roasts, showing minimal-to-no surface oils….we want all of the flavor to stay in the beans until the coffee is ground! Despite the additional descriptors, the first flavor and aroma you'll think of is "COFFEE".

Country of Origin: Kenya
Kenya Peaberry Riamute Farm

Continuing our on-going relationship with grower extraordinaire Matthew Mugo from the Riamute Farm in Kiambu. Technically this coffee's designation (so says the sack's cloth tag) could be "Kathunguri", which means "a tough hill" as it comes from the highest elevation on the Riamute farm. The farms are divided by a road, and Kathunguri represents the hardest-to-farm part of the crop.
Like our previous AA from Matthew, the microlot Peaberry is almost all SL34 with some (less than 4%) SL28 and exudes fruit, chocolate and the prized acidity Kenyan coffees are known for.
Our favorite prep is pourover but the density and low water content make for exciting espresso as well. Roast level will be somewhat darker for espresso...please specify when you order. This coffee will also replace the Kiambu AA in our Hotshot Espresso.

Andrea Spella and Badbeard
Barista extraordinaire Andrea Spella poses with Badbeard outside the Spella Cafe in downtown Portland.
"The Gelana Abaya is delicious -- blueberry flavor with funky cocoa and toasted coconut sweetness in the finish. The sample of the Kiamabara was everything I expect from a Kenya offering -- sparkling plum acidity, contrasting with a sweet but clean finish. So I thank you for the Kiamabara. It will difficult to decide which I will want for my next purchase."
